Rustic
A rustic themed wedding is ideal for the skilled DIY bride because everything is supposed to look homemade. An outdoor venue or a large barn sets the stage – inexpensively – for your guests to have an old fashioned good time. You will be surprised by how romantic burlap and wildflowers can be. Simple twine and a handwritten tags will take the place of pricey printed place cards on the tables, with centerpieces of small wooden crates filled with natural greenery. For favors, consider small tokens wrapped in burlap tied up with a piece of twine or mason jars of homemade treats. Mason jars can also be used to serve beverages. Minimal décor can include burlap, evergreen boughs, candles, and bales of hay that double as seating.
Beach
This is another reception theme that is perfect for DIY because the focus is on the naturally gorgeous venue. Offer flip flops and sunglasses as favors and keep the decorations bright and tropical. String some lights and cover tables with fun, striped tablecloths. Consider making your own seashell bouquet and sand-filled bottles for centerpieces. Paper umbrellas can be used to dress up drinks, centerpieces, and flower arrangements.
Vineyard
You can hold your reception at a local vineyard or simply create a Tuscan atmosphere with some creative DIY projects. Have your friends save up their empty wine bottles, because they can be used for centerpieces, lighting, or almost anything you are willing to make out of them. The corks, too, can be used to make candleholders, place card holders, or simply fill a vase with them for a cute centerpiece. Wine glasses can also be used in your centerpieces; fill them with candles, stones, or grapes. Attach keyrings to wine corks for a unique and inexpensive favor.
Romantic
Make the most of ribbons and tulle for a beautifully romantic DIY wedding theme. Backdrops or chairs with draped tulle or hanging ribbons will quickly create a soft, sensual atmosphere. Wrap silverware settings in paper doilies that can also be used in your centerpieces under simple candles and flowers. Float candles in a bowl of water for a soft reflected glow.
Happy DIYing!
